Turkish Phonetics

Ebru Arısoy, Levent Arslan, Murat Saraçlar, Oytun Türk

Turkish phonetics group is a collobrative work of Boğazici University Speech Processing group and Western Languages and Literatures Department. The aim of the project was to prepare a manuscript and a power point presentation that analyses Turkish Phonetics from an acoustical perspective. As a result both linguists and Speech Researchers working on Turkish language would be able to have a guide for them that covers the basic concepts in Turkish Phonology. Average formant frequencies of Turkish vowels, and their durations are analyzed. The articulation of each phoneme is illustrated with MR data. Female and male utterance examples and their corresponding spectra are shown. In addition each phoneme in Turkish is listed with examples of their usage within words.
